Billi is confronted with cultural differences and familial bonds and is torn between loyalty and independence. A visit to her dying grandmother in China proves to be a turning point for her.
The Farewell of Asian Girls is an excellent film about Chinese culture and the Chinese diaspora and will spark conversation on diversity and inclusion in Hollywood. It’s a bittersweet tale about growing up in a Chinese community and navigating the cultural nuances of one’s own identity. With its acclaimed star, Awkwafina, “The Farewell” was a breakout hit at the Sundance film festival. It’s already generated awards talk, and the movie’s wide release last weekend led to the highest per-screen average of any film this year.
